This week’s activities and learning opportunities based on the Early Years Foundation stage will include the following:

ACTIVITIES

Indoors - decorating mini cakes for the family, decorating large cakes for Mr Large’s birthday (story – “A Quiet Night In), role play tea party, Mr Large’s birthday tea party (Friday afternoon)

Outdoors – football shoot out with tallies, numbered cars and scooters with numbered parking spaces, ball games with chalked numbers

 

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy – numbers and counting

Use some number language such as ‘more’ and ‘a lot’

Use some number names and number language spontaneously

Sometimes match number and quantity correctly

Recognise groups with one two or three objects

Recognise some numerals of personal significance

Count objects by saying one number name for each object

Problem Solving, Reasoning and numeracy - calculating

Begin to make comparisons between quantities

Compare two groups of objects saying when they have the same number

Share objects into equal groups and count how many in each group

ACTIVITIES

Birthday invitations, birthday card for Mr Large, wrapping and labelling birthday presents, tracing simple patterns

Outdoors – paint large birthday banner

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Communication, Language and Literacy

Sometimes give meaning to marks they make as they draw and paint

Ascribe meanings to marks that they see in different places

Begin to break the flow of speech into words

Use writing as a means of recording and communicating

Draw lines and circles and use pens with increasing control

Begin to use anti-clockwise movement and retrace vertical lines

Begin to form recognisable letters
