Dear Parents
Welcome back – we hope you all enjoyed the Easter holidays and we would like to give a warm welcome to the new families joining our youngest group this term.
Topic
This week we will be celebrating the royal wedding with the children and reading “The Queen’s Knickers” (thank you Sienna and mum for introducing this story to us). We will also be looking at what the children are enjoying at the moment as we plan the topic for the rest of the term. If you have any ideas or suggestions for activities or themes, please speak to one of the staff or pop a not in your child’s home book.
Hot and sunny weather – keeping healthy
During this lovely weather that we are now enjoying, it is vital that the children are provided with appropriate clothing and access to water (this is always available throughout the day in a jug on the table by the kitchen – we will be reminding the children at regular intervals, and will also be bringing an extra jug of water outdoors to ensure the children are drinking enough). Please can you now provide a labelled sun hat or cap, preferably one that also protects the back of the neck, every session. Also, please ensure your child has sun cream applied before arriving at Pre-school. If your child attends whole day sessions, we will need to reapply sun cream during the day for which will need your written consent – please could you therefore sign and return the attached consent as soon as possible.
New staff
We hope you will join us in extending a warm welcome to Rebecca Harris who will be joining the team on Monday and Thursday afternoons.
Library trip
To complete our topic for last term of ‘favourite stories’, we have arranged a trip to the library which will include stories and songs as well as looking at information books, and hopefully also using the computers in the children area to look up information (this was a key theme last term and one that has captured many of the children’s interests). The visit has been booked for Tuesday 10th May (we will be leaving Pre-school as soon after the children’s arrival as possible) – as with all trips we will need adult helpers to ensure we have at least one adult for every two children. Please therefore let any of the staff know as soon as possible if you can help out.
Cake stall
WOW! Thank you so much to every one who helped out, from baking and donating to buying and of course, to the lovely ladies who manned the stalls. We raised just under £160 which is fantastic. We are presently looking at some new maths resources to spend the money on.
The outdoor area
Just to let you know, we are still working on this – I know it’s incredibly frustrating how long this has taken. We do have formal approval from the school governors and informal approval from the Swindon Borough Council property services. We are now ‘just’ waiting for the final documentation from Swindon Borough Council and confirmation regarding planning permission. Please be assured that we are doing everything possible to get this sorted and will let you know as we as we have more news.
Working together
Just a little reminder and a plea to continue to update your child’s home books – these are so valuable in helping us to value you child’s home life and experiences as well as encouraging lots of language and discussion. Photographs in the books are particularly useful and help to create a book that is really very special and full of memories. However, we appreciate that not everyone has access to digital cameras or printing – we have therefore recently purchased 2 spare digital cameras so please let us know if you would like to borrow one of these.
Thank you for your continued support and help – we look forward to a busy and fun, albeit short, term ahead.
Kind regards
Mrs Helen Kenyon
Supervisor
